POSITION

The International School of San Francisco is seeking a dynamic and dedicated French and English as a Second Language (FSL/ESL) teacher to support language acquisition for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 for the 2025-2026 school year. The teacher will work with multilingual learners to develop their proficiency in French and English through targeted small-group instruction and language support within the classroom.

This is an hourly position (approximately 20 hours per week) with a flexible schedule, reporting to the Lower School Principal.

If and when acting as Extended Care monitor for after lunch, recess supervision, school care or vacation camps, reporting is to the Extended Care Supervisor.

FOCUS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Provide targeted small-group and one-on-one language instruction in French and English to students in K–5 who are acquiring either language as a second language.
• Collaborate with curriculum program managers and homeroom teachers to support language integration within classroom learning and projects.
• Assess students’ language development using a variety of formal and informal methods.
• Provide assessment and maintain accurate documentation of student progress and communicate effectively with the student support team.
• Support students’ social and academic language development across a range of contexts.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that reflects the school’s values of multilingualism and global citizenship.
• Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family.
• Attend regular meetings as needed and participate in student support team meetings as needed.
• Perform other professional responsibilities and duties as required or assigned, including acting as extended care monitor during lunch, recess, vacation camps, and child care when requested .

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Proficient in the language of teaching (French and English)
• Experience working with young children (age 2-10 years old)
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Certified in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one: at least 6 Early Childhood Education Units (12 would be a plus)
• CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
• Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.
• Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
• Able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs
• Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
• Have the ability to collaborate and work positively in a professional setting with multiple colleagues in a teaching team - both in and out of the classroom. 
• Must be authorized to work in the United States .

Hourly rate for this position is $25-$43.75 per hour.
